STATEMENT FROM THE JUDICIAL CONDUCT

INVESTIGATIONS OFFICE

Ms Shirley Young JP

A spokesperson for the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office said:

Mr Justice Keehan, on behalf of the Lord Chief Justice and with the Lord Chancellor’s agreement, has issued Shirley Young JP of the West Hampshire Bench with a formal warning for misconduct. Mrs Young persistently refused a reasonable request for a meeting with her bench chair. She also sent emails to him, parts of which were rude and disrespectful. In reaching their decision, they took into account that Mrs Young had failed to show any contrition for her conduct until late in the investigation process.
